Study Advice and Support



Academic Counseling / Study Coordination

If you have questions regarding your studies, application, the study contents or your individual course of study, the study coordinator Ms. Karen Seiler and Ms. Anne Catrin Lang is the right address. She will help you with personal problems and is always eager to hear suggestions and criticism about the studies. Furthermore, you can account for courses form prior studies (for the placement in a higher semester) or an exchange semester.

International Student Office / Erasmus

In order to assist our international students the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering has established the International Student Office (ISO). If you have any questions or difficulties at the beginning or during your semester abroad we are there for you. You can send an email or make an appointment. Furthermore we advise students from our Faculty, which are interested in a semester abroad and would like to apply.

Student Council Architecture and Civil Engineering

The students volunteering in the Student Council stand by their fellow students regarding problems and questions about their studies. They represent the whole student body in the faculties committees. Furthermore, the Student Coucil is responsible for the organization of the student workroom and organizes the orientation phase for all the freshmen of the two bachelor degree courses every year in the winter semester. During this week, the new students get to know the campus, the faculty and everything important about the studies.

HelpDesk Mathematics for Civil Engineers

The Math HelpDesk supports the students of the Bachelor Civil engineering in higher mathematics. Alongside the obligatory math precourse before the start of studies, students should regularly and early seek out help when working on the contents of the lectures and exercises, as well as for preparation to the exam. Furthermore, on the homepage of the Math HelpDesk there are helpful files regarding the topics of higher mathematics.

Study Admission Office

The staff of the ‘Studierendensekretatiat’ are responsible for all study formalities and can counsel you during the application for a place at the university and for all questions regarding, enrollment, re-registration, semester contribution, enrollment certification, exmatriculation etc.

International Office

The International Office is in charge of all international students and advises them during the application for a study place and during their studies. Here all questions regarding the required documents, training certificates and language certificates are answered. Furthermore, the International Office is responsible for all exchange students – incomings as well as outgoing.

Examination Office

Students of the Faculty Architecture and Civil Engineering are supported by the Team 2 of the ‘Prüfungsverwaltung’ in all things concerning examination (dates, registration and deregistration, cases of illness, record of grades in BOSS, creation of transcripts of records and certificates).

General Student Advice Office

The Zentrale Studienberatung (ZSB) informs about the general conditions of university studies, about the various range of studies at the TU Dortmund, gives advice for the preparation for studies as well as support for students with difficulty in their course of studies, problems with their exams, planning to change their field of study or even study termination. Furthermore, the ZSB organizes numerous info events for prospective students.

Psychological Study Advice

The Psychologische Studienberatung as a part of the Zentrale Studienberatung is a service facility for all students at the TU Dortmund. A Team of at the moment four psychologists helps during study crisis and personal or family problems. The Psychologische Studienberatung makes efforts to develop coping strategies in difficult life situations and to increase the ability to study and the satisfaction. All advice services are free.

DoBuS (Dortmunder Zentrum Behinderung und Studium)

The DoBuS is an organization, which supports students and applicants with

· physical disabilities

General Student Committe ASTA 

The “Allgemeine Studierendenausschuss (AStA)” officially represents the interests of students at the respective university and also their political interests towards the university and the state. The ASTA committee is elected by the student parliament (StuPa) and consists of different sections e.g. educational policy, women’s policy, fundamental rights and civil liberties as well as culture amongst others.

The ASTA represents the interest of students towards the administration, the ministries or other authorities. Above all, the committee provides support for any problems or queries that students may have. The ASTA offers a wide range of services including publication of handouts, as well as social and legal counseling services.
