The chair of Numerical Methods and Information Processing is in charge of all topics related to computational mechanics.

In detail, the following contents are presented in the lectures and seminars.


Bachelor studies in civil engineering

  • Introduction to programming (Matlab)
  • Linear finite element method for trusses, rods and beams
  • Linear finite element method for plane load-bearing structures
  • Adaptive methods
  • Commercial software systems (Ansys)


Master studies in civil engineering

  • Nonlinear finite element methods (hyperelasticity, elastoplasticity)
  • Structural optimization (topology and shape optimization, sensitivity analysis)
  • Software development in numerical mechanics


All courses offer both the theoretical background as well as computational techniques and encourage the students to gain  experience in implementing and testing their own code.
